More Freedom When E-Biking Thanks to an Own Communication System

Peiker Ceecoach Plus communication system

At first it may seem a bit excessive to start your bike tour with family, friends or in another group with your own communication system so that you can talk to each other. Most of you probably ride so close together that you can chat normally or at least call out to each other. On the other hand, on a tour like this, it is easy for individual riders to be out of earshot and perhaps even out of sight. This is where a communication system can be extremely helpful.

Group without constraint

Even the smallest possible group of two riders can sometimes lead to larger distances between them. Someone may want to take a quick photo here, take a closer look there, or ride the uphill or downhill section at their own pace. In order to find each other again, you take out your mobile phone and call each other. Or the rider in front stops. Both have the potential to be annoying.

With communication systems like the Ceecoach Plus from Peiker, such situations are less stressful. Thanks to a transmitter and receiver unit as well as an associated headset, a group can coordinate while riding without taking a hand off the handlebar. The solution from the manufacturer in Bad Homburg works with the help of active voice recognition. The corresponding technical term is Voice Activity Detection (VAD). Via the connection, you can give instructions on how to turn, warn of dangerous spots or simply plan the next break.

The Peiker Ceecoach Plus features a 3.5 mm jack for headsets and a USB-C port for charging.

Numerous conceivable applications

Especially if you are a sporty cyclist and often ride in established groups, you know how important it is to ride with foresight. When the group of e-road bikes splits up on a long climb or you tackle an unknown downhill together with friends on your e-mountain bikes, the permanent exchange of information about the route quickly proves valuable.

Apart from that, speaking via a solution like the Ceecoach Plus saves your voice. Anyone who has ever cycled for days in heavy winds will know what we mean. It can also be a relief for people whose hearing is limited.

The Peiker Ceecoach Plus can be easily attached to the arm with the accompanying Velcro strap.

Not an infinite range

Of course, this kind of communication has certain limits. Regarding the Ceecoach Plus, this refers less to the number of people who can form a group. The maximum number is 16, which is probably more than enough in most cases. More important is the range of the system. Here it is 700 metres. Peiker promises up to 18 hours of battery life for the Ceecoach Plus. The device is fully charged again after three hours.

A maximum of 16 cyclists can be included in a shared network.

For transmission, it uses the CEE intercom technology developed by the manufacturer. This is a closed network among the respective units. It does not depend on any WLAN, mobile or radio networks. Conversely, this also means that you cannot connect a Ceecoach Plus to your smartphone.

No one gets lost

The system scores points with a function called “Re-Connect”. It allows a member of the group who has temporarily been more than 700 metres away from the other members to reconnect automatically. If it returns to the radius mentioned, there is no need for any manual intervention and the device is automatically integrated into the network again.

However, this is only that easy if only one member of the group loses contact. If the group splits into two groups, each with several members, for example as a result of a defect, they form a new group among themselves. The subsequent reunification of the original group requires the press of a button on the Ceecoach – so all in all, it is quite convenient.

Mountain hiking and skiing are among the many uses of such a communication system.

Many things have been thought of

Peiker initially aimed the Ceecoach at equestrian sports. In the course of time, the system also found its way into sailing, mountain sports, rafting and other outdoor sports due to its further developments. With an IP67 protection rating, it is ideally suited for ebiking, as rain, dirt and dust can hardly do any harm to it. Compact dimensions and a weight of 96 grams make it even easier to carry around. Peiker also includes a belt clip, a Velcro strap, a wired mono headset and a charging cable as standard. Basically, you can start right away. If you think is worth the 235 euros being called up. The cheaper versions Ceecoach 1 and Ceecoach 2 are available for 159 and 189 euros respectively. In these cases, however, you have to make a few concessions in terms of functions and range.
