New KTM E-Bikes for 2021: Test Winner Available Again!

Since drive manufacturer Bosch has not announced any new models for this year, but only a number of great updates (read more here) for motors and displays, there will be no innovations to the drive, motors and batteries of the new KTM e-bikes for 2021. The test winner of the German consumer organisation and foundation Stiftung Warentest will be available under a new name next year. In general, it is noticeable that the colour palette of the bikes this season is much stronger and brighter: Oilslick details and beige sidewalls are now finally available on e-bikes.

1. Better than ever before: test winner successor KTM Macina Tour CX 610

This year, Stiftung Warentest awarded the KTM Macina Tour 510 a well-deserved test winner. We have reported on this in detail here. The model was literally ripped out of the hands of bike dealers, so that it was sold out throughout Germany just a few days after its release. KTM now presents the successor model with the same features: It goes by the name of KTM Macina Tour CX 610 and impresses with its smooth ride, reliable components and great safety. Mudguards, lighting system from Busch&Müller and a luggage rack make this model THE e-bike par excellence.

2. E-mountainbikes from KTM: Carbon bikes Prowler and Kapoho

KTM’s flagship, the Fully E-MTB Prowler Exonic (formerly Sonic), will receive an important update for the year 2021: As expected it comes with the 1×12 XX1 AXS from SRAM. Incidentally, the mega trend of the “Oilslick” design will be on show at KTM for the first time at E-MTBs: chain and cassette shimmer in beautiful oil rainbow colours. By the way, the top model maintains its total weight of 23.5 kg, which is due to the light carbon frame and carbon rims. But weight tuners will certainly have one or two ideas for savings.

The Prowler and Kapoho models are all equipped with the Bosch Performance CX motor and are supported with 85 Nm (instead of the previous 75 Nm). The Kapoho range is led by the top model Prestige with carbon frame, 1×12 Shimano XTR shifting and 160 mm FOX 36 Float suspension fork. The new eMTB mode also provides improved traction. In addition, the “Extended Boost” gives extra power on small obstacles or climbs. You can read more about this here.

3. New: The sporty low step frame PowerTubeSport (PTS)

KTM’s core business is primarily innovative e-bikes in the comfort sector. Now there is a new low step frame in the range, called “PowerTubeSport” (PTS). It accommodates the battery in an integrated vertical position. A frame which, according to KTM, combines “sporty dynamics with comfortable elegance”. With a low centre of gravity and a very high stiffness, the PowerTubeSport could be described as a “low step frame with mountain bike feeling“. It features the following models:

4. It doesn’t get more stylish than this: KTM Macina Style in exciting colours

The Style line from KTM is by far one of the most popular, because most comfortable, trekking e-bikes available on the market. Suspended seat post and adjustable stem ensure the greatest possible comfort on long tours. Now the product developers have stirred up the paint pot and are bringing some colour highlights to the road for the upcoming year. What we particularly like (and in the e-bike sector is long overdue!) are the beige tyre sidewalls. A real eye-catcher!

Regarding the drive system everything stays the same: All Macina Style bikes are equipped with the Bosch Performance CX motor and the PowerTube 625 Wh battery. Both models, 610 and 620, incorporate the virtually indestructible Shimano Deore gears. The 610s even come with the 1×12 Shimano Deore XT, which was actually developed for mountain biking. So this should also be sufficient for ambitious tours a little off the beaten track. The e-trekking bikes are sprung with 63 mm of suspension travel. This also guarantees comfort on rough paths. The 610 can optionally be purchased with the new Nyon display, otherwise there is the proven Intuvia. The 620 models start at 3,599 € RRP, the top model 610 with Nyon wants to be purchased for 4,299 €.

5. Children-friendly: the new Mini Me’s

KTM can no longer ignore the major trend of children’s bicycles and is now offering a significantly wider range of products for infants and young people. In addition to balance bikes and faithful everyday companions for the little ones, there are two new electric-powered Mini Me models for the slightly larger ones. At 24″ and 26″ the little ones can look forward to excursions with their parents or first discovery tours through woods and meadows.

6. Don’t loose sight of things in the KTM jungle: Which model what for? What do the product names mean?

KTM meanwhile offers a wide range of different electric bikes for virtually every application. Here we give you an overview of which model is suitable for which application. The equipment of a model can even be read off the product name, if you know what the abbreviations stand for. At KTM, naming is usually done according to the following scheme:

Model name + number + supplement

Example: Macina Aera + 271 + LFC

• The first two numbers indicate the frame size: 27… means 27.5 inches, 29… means 29 inches.
• The last number indicates the quality of the equipment: ..1 is the highest quality equipment, ..2 is the slightly lower quality
• An optional letter before the first number: P2… stands for the Bosch Performance Motor with 65 Nm
• Supplements according to the combination of numbers: LFC (Light, Fender, Carrier), Glorious (women), ABS (Bosch anti-lock braking system)

Example: Macina Aera + 271 + LFC = An E-SUV bike in 27,5″ with top equipment, plus lights, mudguards and luggage rack.

• Ride: E-MTB Hardtail, beginner’s model, also suitable for youngsters.
• Aera: former Scout (2019), E-SUV, mountain bike with low step
• Cross: Cross E-MTB (for use between MTB and road bike)
