1. Flyer Uproc X: Uphill, downhill, as often as you like

Usually, Flyer likes to hint at comfort and relaxed progress with its bikes. The fullys among the Uproc models have always danced a little out of line here. Such motives are rarely at the forefront of anyone’s mind when planning an Enduro ride. Some Uproc models now confirm their special role by being the first bikes in Flyer’s range with a frame made of carbon.

The new flagship among the full-suspension e-mountain bikes will be the Flyer Uproc X for the 2022 season. It will replace the Uproc 7, which will disappear completely from the range. The step seems logical, as Flyer does not want to voluntarily give up too much ground to the competition. After all, the competition has had comparable products on offer for some years now.

Closer to the current zeitgeist

Perhaps the Goroc X had to wait a little long for its market launch. In any case, it seems to do very well. Compared to the Uproc 7, the geometry is more in line with current trends. In other words, the seat tube of the Uproc X is set a little steeper. The headtube angle of 65 degrees was already quite flat before. In addition, the battery is now completely installed in the downtube instead of on top of it.

You won’t have to compromise on capacity in the future either. As usual, up to 750 watt hours are available. In combination with the latest “upgrade” of the Panasonic GX Ultimate Pro Fit motor, this is a very powerful solution.

The suspension travel, on the other hand, has been slimmed down slightly. The 150 millimetres means ten millimetres less than before. This puts the Goroc X at the lower end of the range that you can typically expect on an enduro bike.

A small concept change has also been made with regard to the wheels. Having different sizes for the front and rear wheel means a break from the 27.5 inch standard. Now you get a 29-inch wheel at the front for a little more smoothness and comfort when tackling obstacles.

The top model of the series, the Goroc X 9.50, is packed with the finest components. Automatic AXS gears from Sram, fully integrated carbon stem/handlebar unit with internal cable routing, electronically controlled retractable seatpost – all of these add a touch of refinement to the carbon frame. Flyer keeps to itself what this means for the scales. Only the permissible total weight of 140 kilograms is mentioned. The price of 9,999 euros, on the other hand, is no secret.

2. Flyer Goroc X: Suddenly nothing matters

Completely new for the 2022 season from Flyer is the Goroc X. The X here symbolises the digits ten rather than the letter. Apparently, the SUV ebike category attracted so much interest that the Swiss considered there was still room for improvement in this model range. Incidentally, they themselves speak of a full-suspension “crossover ebike in a class of its own”.

It is certainly one of the ebikes with a lot of talent. Full suspension with 140 millimetres front and rear, mudguards, rear carrier, lights and side stand as part of the basic equipment – there’s a lot on it and in it. The much-quoted “Swiss Army Knife” sends its regards. There is no doubt that you can tackle almost any terrain, with or without luggage, plan long tours or go for an after-work sprint.

Greater smoothness and more endurance

The Goroc X can do almost anything. One reason for this is its 29-inch wheels, which effortlessly level out bumps and give you a smooth ride. Only in frame size S has Flyer opted for the next size down, i.e., 27.5 inches. In addition, only the battery with the slightly lower capacity is available there.

On the other hand, you have the option of a 540 watt-hour range extender for all frame sizes. This increases the range by a good 70 to 80 percent. If you wish, you can opt for the range extender directly at the time of purchase. But don’t forget the additional 900 euros. Or you can save a little and add it later. Thanks to the serial interface, this can be done at any time.

In addition to three “normal” models with different equipment, the product range also includes an S-pedelec with the Goroc X 6.70 HS variant. However, this is reserved for the Swiss market.

So here we go again, the wild chase through the new launches for the 2022 season. Traditionally, Flyer is one of those who present at least some of the new ebikes early in the year. This year is no exception.

However, this year is definitely not like any other. Months of interrupted or crumbling supply chains, factory closures and the shortage of raw materials and electronic components have left deep scars. So, it is not surprising that Flyer is choosing a rather conservative strategy overall and not throwing every dress out of the wardrobe. Other manufacturers will certainly follow this example. One consequence of this is that Flyer will only launch two completely new bikes in 2022. The novelties will be joined by two comprehensive revisions. And the rest will have a lot in common with the 2021 range.

Nevertheless, there is one fundamental difference. On the data sheet, it is only five Newton metres. But in fact, it is a complete evolutionary step. Many Flyer ebikes will be equipped with the Panasonic Ultimate Pro Fit. In its latest version, this motor produces an enormous 95 Newton metres of torque. In addition, there are displays and control units of the “FIT 2.0” generation.

3. Flyer Uproc 2: More than just a facelift

As one of the perennial favourites in Flyer’s range, the Uproc 2 has received a makeover for 2022. The focus is on the new frame, which has completely changed the basis of the hardtail. You can see at first glance that this is no longer the old Uproc 2. A look at the specs reveals that the steering angle has become two and a half degrees steeper. With the same seat angle, the riding position tends to be more upright and relaxed. To illustrate this, we used frame sizes L for comparison. With the old frame, the ratio between stack (vertical distance from the centre of the bottom bracket to the horizontally extended top edge of the head tube) and reach (horizontal distance from the vertically extended centre of the bottom bracket to the top edge of the head tube) was around 1.5. With the new frame, it is 1.6. This may not sound like much, but it means that Flyer has clearly refined the geometry.

A mix of the new and the tried and tested

What else stands out? Definitely that there will be two frame shapes from now on: Comfort and Gents, i.e., with a slightly lower entry and classic top tube respectively. Flyer has completely hidden the battery in the down tube. To charge it, you can detach it in two easy steps and remove it from the side. The manufacturer is even quite generous when it comes to the battery and only uses the device with the largest possible capacity of 750 watt hours on the Uproc 2.

Other details, however, will look familiar. The suspension fork still has 120 millimetres of travel. The top model now features the Gold 35 from Rockshox, a slightly higher quality model than in the past. A particularly practical feature is that the bike is MonkeyLink ready. This means it has a magnetic connection on the stem and on the saddle clamp. Attachments such as headlights and mudguards can be mounted there. In the case of the headlights, the battery then acts as the energy source.

As before, you can choose between two technical equipment variants. However, you will have to dig a little deeper into your wallet. The new features described above have not left the prices unscathed. The entry-level model has increased by 1,000 euros, the top model costs 1,200 euros more than before.

4. Flyer Goroc 2: Twin with urban character

The simultaneous launch of the Uproc 2 and Goroc 2 seems absolutely fitting. Basically, the Flyer Goroc 2 is the urban sibling of the Uproc 2. Both have a lot in common. The only difference is that the Goroc 2 is completely geared towards road traffic. Besides that, it is ideal for tours where you want to take panniers with you.

Since the Uproc 2 and Goroc 2 are based on the identical frame, the city ebike is also a far-reaching revision. You can read about the characteristics of the new frame and what this means for your riding experience a few lines above.

A brand new addition to the line-up is an speed pedelec, the Flyer Goroc 2 6.30 HS. The speedster is designed to be fast, but also very stable. A glance at the scales makes this clear. This bike weighs in at 30 kilograms, which should not be underestimated. Fortunately, there is a walk assistance. Otherwise, we also have to note that the price spiral is turning briskly. Both pedelec models cost 900 euros more than last year.
