Anyone who rides an ebike featuring a motor from TQ can now enjoy a smarter riding experience. TQ is updating both the software and firmware for the TQ app. With this update, the drive manufacturer is catching up with the competition and integrating functions that you already know in the same or similar form from Bosch, Shimano and co. This means that a smartphone with the TQ app can also replace an ebike display in future.
Minimal concept has had its day
Until now, anyone riding an ebike with the TQ HPR50 and using the TQ app, for example, only saw the most necessary information while riding. The focus should clearly be on riding. Apparently, however, some users wanted something that went beyond this. TQ is now responding with a new screen – the Rider Screen. You can access it by swiping to the right once in the app from the start screen.
A wide range of data about your current journey can be displayed on the Rider Screen. This includes, among other things:
- Speed
- Cadence
- Motor power
- Human power
- Range
- Current Time
However, only two of these will appear on the Rider Screen, which you can select via a menu by ticking them. A thin white line separates the two pieces of information on the screen. Regardless of what you select at the end, the app displays the data on your smartphone in real time. Information such as the cadence and your own power allow you to ride in a more controlled manner, for example, which now also supports targeted training in addition to the experience of nature.
View the battery profile
The ‘Bike information’ menu item has also been expanded. Important information about the battery can now be viewed there. Not only can you see its current charge level, but also how often it has been fully charged. The number of charging cycles is an important indicator when it comes to assessing the performance of the battery. As a rule, it should offer you at least 500 complete charging cycles in the course of its life.
Ensure special motor setup
There have also been changes related to the motor settings. For the three riding modes of the HPR50, Eco, Mid and High, you could previously specify how much of the maximum power and maximum assistance is available in which mode, how quickly the motor reacts to your pedal pressure and whether the motor assistance should end before the 25 km/h limit in one of the modes. You can now save these settings as a profile in your account in the app. Unfortunately, there is currently only one profile. It is quite possible that it will be possible to create several profiles in one account in the medium term.
Important: You cannot download this update for the TQ app for your ebike yourself. You will need to go to an authorised workshop to have it done for you.
