Defective Brakes! Recall for Husqvarna, GasGas and R Raymon

Recall by Pierer New Mobility GmbH for Husqvarna, Gasgas and R Raymon ebikes

Faulty brakes have prompted the Austrian ebike manufacturer Pierer New Mobility to issue a large-scale recall. In the course of its own quality checks, an apparently serious defect in hydraulic disc brakes from the manufacturer Clarks has come to light. According to Pierer, the brake system deviated from the agreed specification and the associated safety requirements. As a result, Pierer noticed increased brake wear. In the worst-case scenario, the disc rotor can snap off, posing a major risk of an accident.

In view of the serious situation, Pierer immediately stops the sale of the bicycles equipped with them. The company is recalling all bikes that have already been delivered. In the press release published today, the manufacturer advises those who own one of the affected ebikes to take it as soon as possible to an authorised dealer who sells Pierer Mobility brands. Apparently, information to this effect has already gone out to the dealers. They will take over the recall. Important: Pierer urgently advises not to ride the models with Clarks brakes.

The recall affects the following bikes of the model year 2022 of the brands Husqvarna, GasGas and R Raymon:

Husqvarna E-Bicycles

  • Eco City EC1
  • Eco City EC3

GasGas Bicycles

  • G Cross Country 1.0
  • G Cross Country 2.0
  • G Trekking 2.0 Gent
  • G Trekking 2.0 Wave

R Raymon

  • CityRay E 1.0 26’’/28’’
  • Crossray E 3.0 Gent/Lady
  • CrossRay E 5.0 Gent/Lady/Wave
  • CrossRay E 6.0 Gent/Lady/Wave
  • CrossRay FS E 4.0
  • HardRay E 1.0 26’’/27.5’’/29’’
  • HardRay E 3.0 27.5’’/29’’
  • HardRay E 4.0 27.5’’/29’’
  • HardRay E 5.0 29’’
  • HardRay E 6.0 27,5’’/29’’
  • TourRay E 3.0 Gent/Lady/Wave
  • TourRay E 3.0 Gent/Lady/Wave
  • TourRay E 5.0 Gent/Lady/Wave
  • TourRay E 6.0 Gent/Lady/Wave

As a first consequence, the bicycle manufacturer has announced that it will completely remove the corresponding brake system from Clarks from its product range. The announcement does not say when this will happen and whether it means a general discontinuation of Clark brakes. In any case, new brakes from other manufacturers will be installed on the bikes mentioned.

For all other Husqvarna, GasGas and R Raymon ebikes, Pierer uses braking systems from Shimano and Tektro. With regard to these, the all-clear has been given. They are not affected, the manufacturer wrote.
