KTM Ebike Novelties 2025: Banking on Bosch ‘s New CX-Motor

KTM ebike novelties for the 2025 season

Basically, Bosch has just introduced five new components for the Smart System. In fact, this means kicking off an avalanche. All bicycle manufacturers who already have new models for the 2025 season with these components in the starting blocks will now want to show them to the public fairly quickly. KTM is one of them. Traditionally, the Mattighofen-based company has very close ties with Bosch and is sometimes involved in the decision-making process when it comes to details. Understandably, when we look at KTM’s range for next year, a lot of the focus is on the new Bosch Performance Line CX. A lot, but not everything.

1. Which Bosch innovations is KTM adopting for 2025?

Focus on new Bosch motor

Nevertheless, the revised version of the best-known Bosch motor remains the dominant innovation at KTM. In total, KTM is launching 19 model series for the 2025 season. In eleven of them, you will encounter the Gen. 5 of the Bosch Performance Line CX. In most cases, it will be the only motor. The only exceptions are the KTM Macina Lycan and the KTM Macina Cross. Of the remaining series, seven are based on the Bosch Performance Line SX. The KTM Macina Ride is the only model series that relies on a drive system that dates from before the introduction of the Bosch Smart System.

As well as the new motor, Bosch has also released two new intube batteries – the Bosch PowerTube 800 and the Bosch PowerTube 600. It quickly becomes clear which of these KTM favours. We’ve done the maths for you. As far as we know, 55 ebikes from KTM will be rolling out on the new CX. The manufacturer combines just two of them with the PowerTube 600. So, the majority of you will benefit from the battery with the largest capacity and the highest energy density currently supplied by Bosch. That’s what you call consistent.

More safety when braking

Let’s stick with the new features that are directly linked to Bosch’s Smart System. For the moment, KTM is being cautious with ABS Pro – the brake assist for all ebike fans who like to ride at the limit. It is only used on the KTM Macina Kapoho Master ABS. This full-suspension e-mountain bike with 160 millimetres of suspension travel is the perfect match. However, we could have said the same about the even more enduro-oriented KTM Macina Prowler. There, the manufacturer has dispensed with the added safety.

However, anyone who now believes that KTM is rather sceptical about ABS is mistaken. The ‘normal’ version of the ABS, which was released in 2023, can already be found on models in the popular KTM Macina Team, KTM Macina Aera, KTM Macina Gran and KTM Macina Style series.

Theft protection is important to KTM

Even more often than the ABS, KTM is integrating the Bosch ConnectModule into its ebikes in the 2025 season. In eight model series, the GPS tracker is located under the motor cover. Unsurprisingly, we are talking here about more expensive models, which are better protected against theft with the device. You can theoretically expect the Bosch ConnectModule from a price of around 5,500 euros. However, the number is more of a rough guideline that doesn’t apply in every case.

You have to completely exclude all ebikes featuring the Bosch Performance Line SX from this consideration. Unfortunately, there is not enough space on this model to mount the tracker as standard on a production line in such a way that it remains invisible from the outside.

Why not just have it shifted?

On the rise in the KTM range are also electronic shifting systems with the automatic functions of eShift. On higher-quality models with derailleur gears, the manufacturer fits the TRP E.A.S.I. A12 with twelve gears. On slightly cheaper ebikes, it is more likely to be Shimano’s Cues Di2 with eleven or ten gears. In both cases, you can set a desired cadence, which is then used as an orientation for the gear changes. This quickly proves to be very convenient, especially on longer tours. In addition, electronic shifting is easier on the drive, since the motor stops for a fraction of a second and so each gear change is carried out without additional load.

2. KTM buys an L

KTM is introducing another abbreviation next year. You probably already know LFC, which stands for lights, fenders and carriers. Now L is being added. This refers to a permanently installed lighting system with a headlight and taillight on mountain bikes like the KTM Macina Kapoho Prime L and the KTM Macina Kapoho 8973 L. The manufacturer does not use the abbreviation for ebikes, which are generally designed by KTM for on-road use. Otherwise, every model in the segment would suddenly have to be labelled with an L. The letter is only intended to better distinguish e-mountain bikes.

3.7. KTM Macina Mini Me SX 2025 and KTM Macina Revelator SX 2025

3.1 KTM Macina Urbanator SX 2025

KTM also provides novelties in the form of a new ebike. With the KTM Macina Urbanator SX, the manufacturer is setting an example in a bicycle category in which it has not been present until now. These are the sporty, urban ebikes that save a little on motor and battery power so that the weight remains below the 20-kilogram mark despite being fully equipped for road use.

The KTM Macina Gravelator SX is highly likely to have served as the starting point for this model – more specifically, its variants with the aluminium frame. It looks remarkably like the frame of the Urbanator SX. Given the approach, it’s easy to see why. Firstly, the frame allows the Bosch Performance Line SX to be integrated with a Bosch CompactTube 400. Examples like the Winora iRide Pure and the Flyer Upstreet SL show how popular this drive system is among bike manufacturers for urban ebikes. Secondly, the frame has all the necessary mounts for attaching fenders, a rack and a kickstand. However, you shouldn’t expect too much from the rack. It’s not called the KTM Micro Rack for nothing. With its minimal loading area, it is only approved for a payload of a few kilograms.

The picture makes it clear why the rack is better suited to handbags than larger panniers.

It only takes a few buttons

Access to the ebike drive is also spartan. Nevertheless, the combination of the Bosch System Controller integrated into the top tube and the Bosch Mini Remote Dropbar on the handlebars is all you need to access all the essential functions with just a few button presses. The coloured LEDs on the control unit show you the current battery charge level and the selected level of assistance. If you would prefer a small display on the ebike, the Bosch Purion 400 is a new option.

From Shimano’s robust Linkglide derailleur with nine gears to the weight-saving carbon fork and the high-quality lighting from Supernova, the rest of the bike’s details look as well thought out as usual. The only available paint job is called Olive Pearl Matt and is a typical example of a colour scheme that few would choose themselves but that many can agree on. In return, you have plenty of options when it comes to choosing the right frame size from XS to XL.

At 3,899 euros, the KTM Macina Urbanator SX is exactly 100 euros cheaper than the entry-level price of the most affordable KTM Macina Gravelator SX.

3.2 KTM Macina Gravelator SX 2025

Since we have already touched on the KTM Macina Gravelator SX thematically, let’s stick with it. The series is growing for 2025 with the addition of another model. The KTM Macina Gravelator SX Prime and the KTM Macina Gravelator SX 10 will be joined by the new KTM Macina Gravelator SX 20. In terms of its features, it is largely similar to the KTM Macina Gravelator SX 10. The main difference between the two is the gear and brake groupset used in each. Shimano has recently introduced a more affordable Cues groupset for drop bars below its GRX groupset designed for gravel riding. KTM uses this to keep the total price of the ebike below 4,000 euros. This means slightly simpler braking technology and a reduction from twelve to ten gears.

On the two more expensive versions of the Gravelator SX, KTM is changing the tyre width from 40 millimetres to 45 millimetres. This promises a little more riding comfort and traction. Why this change does not include the new Gravelator SX 20 remains a mystery to us. It probably wasn’t because of the price.

The other technical changes compared to the previous season are negligible. The new electronic transmission rear derailleur from Sram on the top-of-the-range model is certainly worthy of mention. Visually, the green pastel shade on the KTM Macina Gravelator SX Prime has given way to a shiny brown that KTM calls ‘Terra’. Together with the two contrasting colours ‘Golden Dust’ and ‘Petrol’, we really like the new look.

3.3 KTM Macina Scarp SX 2025

There is also a lot going on in the lightweight trail eMTB segment. KTM is revamping the entry point to the KTM Macina Scarp SX model series, which is comparable to the KTM Macina Gravelator SX. On the one hand, this probably speaks to the fundamentally high level of interest in the versatile full-suspension E-MTB with 140 millimetres of travel at the fork and the shock. On the other hand, it shows that the manufacturer still expects potential where previously the price stood in the way of a purchase.

With the KTM Macina Scarp SX Elite, the entry-level price drops to 4,999 euros. That’s more than 1,000 euros less than you previously had to pay for the cheapest model. However, with that amount, you no longer get an electronic rear derailleur or a Fox suspension system. Overall, the range is moving a little closer together in terms of pricing. Despite almost identical specifications to last year, the KTM Macina Scarp SX Exonic, as the top-end model, costs 9,999 euros, which is more than 1,000 euros less than for the 2024 season. Such price movements are rather unusual at the moment. In a positive sense.

  • Maximum permitted total weight: from 110 kg

3.4 KTM Macina Race SX 2025

In contrast, the price of the top-of-the-range hardtail eMTB with the Bosch Performance Line SX motor has risen. The increase of 300 euros for the KTM Macina Race SX 10 to 3,999 euros is due to the new gearing system. It comes with an 11-speed Shimano Cues Di2, which was presented at Eurobike this summer. So in future, if you want, you can let the system shift gears in auto mode on this ebike and thus always ride at the cadence that was previously set as your preference.

The other two models, the KTM Macina Race SX LFC and the KTM Macina Race SX 20, have only seen marginal changes in terms of technical features. The manufacturer continues to adhere to the basic concept of a suspension fork with 100 millimetres of travel, a derailleur system with only nine gears and more heavily profiled tyres. The 400 watt-hour battery enables ranges of between 50 and 100 kilometres, depending on the profile and condition of the track, weather, weight of the riders and so on.

  • Maximum permitted total weight: from 113 kg

3.5 KTM Macina Cross SX 2025

The KTM Macina Cross SX will continue to serve as a bridge between e-mountain bikes and trekking e-bikes in the 2025 season. It is ideal for those who don’t need mudguards, a rack and lighting on their ebike, but at the same time want a more relaxed and correspondingly quieter ride than on an e-mountain bike. The significantly reduced travel of 63 millimetres on the fork is sufficient for this. KTM only equips two of these cross ebikes with the Bosch Performance Line SX. However, these are available with a classic diamond frame and a mid-step frame. Due to the different frame materials of the two ebikes – carbon for the KTM Macina Cross SX Elite and aluminium for the KTM Macina Cross SX 20 – there is a relatively wide range of options, making the choice between the two variants a real either/or. Incidentally, in terms of price, there is a difference of 900 euros. This is a detail that can certainly shorten the decision-making process.

3.6 KTM Macina Sport SX 2025

The KTM Macina Sport SX is available in new colours for the 2025 season. Until now, dark tones have dominated the model series. With a mix of blue and green on the new KTM Macina Sport SX Elite and a light blue on the KTM Macina Sport SX 20, there is significantly more variety. The KTM Macina Sport SX Prime with a dark gold and the KTM Macina Sport SX 10 with a matt orange tone set striking counterpoints.

In general, KTM pulls out all the stops with its lightest trekking ebike. For the first time, the Bosch Performance Line SX motor is also available in an ebike for step-through frames. Three of the four models feature electronic shifting from both Sram and Shimano. When it comes to the question of frame material, however, the ratio is two to two between carbon and aluminium. On the top-of-the-range model, the KTM Macina Sport SX Prime, you’ll find a Fox suspension fork with a Kashima coating, which is otherwise only known from the E-MTB sector. Magura’s brakes are also unrivalled in this segment. Such diversity also characterised the models from previous seasons. Therefore, the new colours are enough for us as a striking revision in this case.

3.7 KTM Macina Mini Me SX 2025 and KTM Macina Revelator SX 2025

The two model series that were added last year remain completely untouched. Not a single detail has changed, neither for the children’s ebikes, the KTM Macina Mini Me SX 26 and the KTM Macina Mini Me SX 24, nor for the e-road bike. Even the prices remain the same. Let’s see what plans the manufacturer has for both series. They will either receive an update next year or may not be continued at all.

KTM Macina Revelator SX Prime e-road bike as a novelty for the 2024 season

Ebikes from KTM with Bosch Performance Line CX for the 2025 season

As mentioned at the beginning, the new components from Bosch are the outstanding innovations on all KTM ebikes that will receive a Bosch Performance Line CX next year. The drive manufacturer has been able to implement essential improvements that make riding an ebike even more enjoyable and open up new possibilities for your ambitions. Therefore, every model with this novelty per se already has an enormous advantage over the models with the older units. This applies in particular where the new Bosch PowerTube 800 ensures even greater ranges.

If you exclude this update of the ebike system, the two best-sellers KTM Macina Aera and KTM Macina Style are the models the manufacturer has been focusing on for the 2025 season. Consequently, they herald the short portraits of the model series, with the Bosch Performance Line CX at their core.

4.1 KTM Macina Aera 2025

If you are looking for a step-through bike that is also great fun for longer tours on a wide variety of surfaces, KTM’s Macina Aera is the obvious choice. Its suspension fork with a full 100 millimetres of travel can handle both rough cobblestones and extensive root carpets with ease. The 60-millimetre-wide profiled tyres do the rest to ensure that you always have sufficient traction.

These features will be enhanced in the future by a new rear suspension. Thanks to this, the rear wheel maintains contact with the ground even more securely, while the damper compensates for minor bumps and vibrations. For you, this results in a more controlled and comfortable riding experience. For the first time, KTM is equipping a step-through ebike with a complete suspension system. And that together with a carbon frame.

At the same time, KTM is sticking to the range of the model series in terms of equipment details and, ultimately, price. At the top of the range are the new KTM Macina Aera FS Prime LFC and the KTM Macina Aera FS Elite. The abbreviation ‘FS’ in the name indicates the full suspension that goes with the carbon frame. These are followed by three models without rear suspension, whose frames are still made of aluminium. These feature numerous high-quality details, including ABS, a suspension seatpost and Shimano’s low-wear Linkglide groupset, so it’s worth taking a closer look if you’re looking for a potential dream ebike.

4.2 KTM Macina Style 2025

While the KTM Macina Aera is more likely to appeal to trekking fans, the KTM Macina Style is aimed at those who mostly ride in the city and prefer paved paths when riding out of town. Usually, a suitable ebike doesn’t necessarily have to feature a full suspension. Nevertheless, we would like to explicitly refer you to the new KTM Macina Style FS Prime. In many ways, it is similar to the KTM Macina Aera FS Prime LFC. However, its narrower tyres are better suited for riding on asphalt. In addition, the eShift function takes care of the shifting for you, so that you automatically ride at your favourite cadence. If you limit the term ‘trekking’ to paved roads, but otherwise ride frequently and for long distances, you will find this model to be an excellent companion.

The new rear suspension on the KTM Macina Style FS Prime is a low-maintenance single pivot system.

However, the KTM Macina Style FS Prime is also only available as a step-through model with a carbon frame. The diamond and mid-step frames only come into play with the other Macina Style models. Nevertheless, riding remains comfortable. After all, a suspension seatpost replaces the rear suspension of the top model across the entire rest of the model range. The KTM Macina Style 820 ABS LTD is the next e-bike from KTM, giving you added safety when braking. And for people of taller stature, the KTM Macina Style 820 XL is recommended, which, in addition to the larger frame dimensions, also has a higher maximum permitted total weight.

  • Maximum permitted total weight: 146 kg

4.3 KTM Macina Gran 2025

Similar to the KTM Macina Style, the KTM Macina Gran is an urban ebike. Consequently, the manufacturer also places a great deal of emphasis on riding safety here. This is highlighted by the two top models, the KTM Macina Gran 810 ABS 29 LTD and the KTM Macina Gran 810 ABS 27 LTD, which come with ABS as standard. This time, KTM is addressing varying body sizes differently. Of the versions with ABS, there is only a step-through frame. However, this has been designed to work with both 29-inch and 27.5-inch wheels. In the latter version, the ebike is therefore slightly shorter and can be steered more manoeuvrably. Usually, this suits people of smaller stature better.

No ABS, but three frame shapes. This is how models three and four in the series can be summarised. Given the dropper seatpost, the large Bosch Kiox 500 display and the automatic electronic shifting on the KTM Macina Gran 810, they don’t differ significantly from the two previously described.

4.4 KTM Macina City 2025

In 2025, KTM will be dedicating less space than in previous years to ebikes with a hub gear. Of the five models previously available in the KTM Macina City range, only two remain. But maybe that’s enough? After all, they are based on the Enviolo TR and the Shimano Nexus Inter5-E – two of the most common hub gears on the bike market. In terms of gear ratio, everything speaks in favour of the Enviolo drivetrain. On the other hand, the Shimano drivetrain costs less. When it comes to the complete bike, there is a price difference of 1,200 euros. The maintenance-free belt drive, the larger display and the higher-quality brakes on the KTM Macina City 810 Belt also contribute to this. However, you may still choose the KTM Macina City 820 XL if, for example, you are looking for a higher maximum permitted total weight. This is xxx kg on the more affordable ebike.

4.5 KTM Macina Tour CX 2025

We have already mentioned the KTM Macina Aera as a trekking ebike. Slightly below that, the KTM Macina Tour CX is another model in this segment that has emerged as the winner of various tests in specialist media. It has often earned the title due to its balanced riding characteristics, solid equipment and well-placed highlights in the specifications. KTM continues to adhere to this concept. From the adjustable stem to the robust rear rack, carefully selected groupsets and hydraulic disc brakes throughout with four brake pistons, we are once again met with details that speak to the wealth of experience in designing such ebikes. We would not be surprised if this were to end with another award or two.

4.6 KTM Macina Cross CX 2025

Somewhere between a trekking bike, a touring bike and even an everyday bike, the cross bike regularly fits the bill. KTM is tapping into this niche like few other bicycle manufacturers. The model series offers enormous variety: Roadworthy equipment, yes or no? Smoother-running 29-inch wheels or rather more agile 27.5-inch? Battery integrated into the down tube or mounted on it? Is a ten-speed gearing system absolutely necessary, or are eight speeds enough? You can weigh up all these options against each other. Of course, not every single model covers this wide spectrum. However, across the entire series, it is still remarkable. This means that you can search for the perfect ebike based entirely on your personal requirements. Especially since the respective specifications also fall within a price range of 800 euros.

5.1 KTM Macina Prowler 2025

There is no doubt where the KTM Macina Prowler feels most at home. KTM’s answer to your enduro dreams loves to plunge down steep descents, tear through rocky terrain and take off with you on the double kicker. With a suspension fork offering 180 millimetres of travel and a shock with 170 millimetres of travel, you are perfectly equipped for daring manoeuvres.

Slightly trimmed down, the 2025 model series includes three instead of the previous four models. KTM is not offering the ‘Master’ version for the moment. We’ll see if it makes a comeback next season. Instead, each of the remaining models is equipped with a Fox suspension system. The gears and brakes meet the highest standards. And the KTM Macina Prowler naturally comes with the largest battery possible, right?

5.2 KTM Macina Kapoho 2025

What KTM saves on the Macina Prowler, the manufacturer adds to the Macina Kapoho. That – and a lot more. The number of models has increased from a total of six to ten. This cannot be explained by technical innovations alone. Apparently, customer interest has shifted more towards slightly more moderate e-mountain bikes. There is no clear trend between the variants with carbon frames or aluminium frames. The corresponding ratio is six to four.

One reason for the increased model range is the introduction of a model with a permanently installed lighting system. On the KTM Macina Kapoho Pro L, you’ll find a 150-lux headlight from Litemove and a tail light from Supernova. Both are rather small so that they fit as unobtrusively as possible on the bike. Basically, the idea has its appeal. This means that you are well prepared if your ride takes longer than expected and you are caught out by darkness. At the same time, the headlight is of course not enough to ride in the dark deliberately. And for everything in between, many will often use battery-powered lights that can be quickly attached and removed. Let’s see if KTM’s offering is in high enough demand.

Another new feature is a model featuring Bosch’s ABS Pro. It’s encouraging to see that KTM has gone for a variant with the KTM Macina Kapoho Master ABS whose other components meet the highest standards. The braking assistance only shows its true quality when pushing you and your bike to the limit. It would be a shame if the bike itself were technically unsuitable for this. That is definitely not the case.

5.3 KTM Macina Lycan 2025

As an eMTB for trail and all-mountain riding, the KTM Macina Scarp SX is a competitor for the KTM Macina Lycan from the same company. The greater motor power is one of the arguments with which the KTM Macina Lycan would like to assert itself here. Considering the 400 watt-hour larger battery, the greater range can be cited as a further point. Whether you prefer an e-MTB with 140 millimetres of front and rear suspension travel with a lighter electric drive or a more traditional approach is entirely up to you. The KTM Macina Lycan also makes the decision as difficult as possible for you with its choice between 29-inch wheels on the KTM Macina Lycan 891 and KTM Macina Lycan 891 Glorious and the smaller 27.5-inch wheels on the KTM Macina Lycan 871 and KTM Macina Lycan 871 Glorious.

You should also take a look at the KTM Macina Lycan 773 L. This model is equipped with an ‘old’ CX motor, although we define old as not belonging to the Smart System. Apart from that, it is well equipped and starts a good 1,000 euros cheaper than the other models in the series.

5.4 KTM Macina Chacana 2025

KTM draws a conceptual line at 125 millimetres of travel. Anything above counts as a pure sports machine and is designed as such. Anything below requires certain compromises and should also prove itself off the trails. For the KTM Macina Chacana, this means that despite the full suspension system, mudguards, lights and a rack are fitted to the eMTB as standard. Other manufacturers might classify it as an SUV ebike with a profile like this. Who knows, for you it might be a more robust and very off-road capable trekking ebike.

Both technical variants have their own specific profile. The KTM Macina Chacana 891 LFC attracts with eShift and automatic electronic shifting, a full-fledged display, a more practical rear rack and higher-quality suspension. At a lower price of 700 euros, the KTM Macina Chacana 892 LFC, on the other hand, makes do with a conventional derailleur, the wireless Bosch Intuvia 100 display and a rack that is best suited to carrying only lightweight panniers.

Both versions are also available with 27.5-inch wheels as the KTM Macina Chacana 871 LFC and the KTM Macina Chacana 872 LFC.

5.6 KTM Macina Team 2025

The KTM Macina Team motto is ‘everything is the same’. And that is meant in a very positive way. Numerous colours. Numerous variants. The hardtail offers 120 millimetres respectively 100 millimetres of travel at the front. Those who are more sporty might choose a model without additional equipment for road use. Others look for and find versions equipped with a rear rack, lighting and mudguards. ABS? Also featured in the model series. The same applies to various display and control unit combinations, electronic and mechanical shifting, and 29-inch and 27.5-inch wheel sizes. The price range is correspondingly wide – from 3,799 euros for the KTM Macina Team 873 to 5,399 euros for the KTM Macina Team 891.

6. Affordable alternative to the Bosch Smart System – KT Macina Ride 2025

At first glance, the KTM Macina Ride looks completely unchanged from last year. That wouldn’t surprise anyone. The Bosch Performance Line motor, Bosch Purion display and Bosch PowerPack 500 battery make it easy to see that the e-drive comes from the second development stage of Bosch. As is well known, this was replaced by the third development stage, the Smart System, for the 2022 season. Even the Shimano Alivio groupset sounds a bit outdated. Nevertheless, this ebike still performs reliably. And in 2025, it even comes with a permanently installed headlight and tail light, as the abbreviation ‘L’ in the product name of both versions, KTM Macina Ride 591 L and KTM Macina Ride 571 L, reveals. At a price of 2,499 euros, this could also be an option for the bargain hunters among you.
