It’s almost a little scary how regularly KTM ebikes end up in the top positions in relevant tests. Want an example? In the great 2022 ebike test of the German Elektrorad magazine, the KTM Macina Style 720 just received a recommendation in the “Tour/Trekking” category. The editors gave it 92 out of a possible 100 points. No other ebike in the entire test received a higher score. On top of that, it received the grade “very good”.
The jury’s test sheet included over 80 criteria. Don’t worry, we won’t go through them one by one here ? Just by looking at the reasons given by Elektrorad, you can clearly see how the KTM Macina Style 720 impressed them during the test.
1. Stylistically convincing
Often the outer appearance says little about the quality of a product. With an ebike that has the word “Style” in its name, the expectations may be different. In this case, the uncluttered design of the KTM seems to have been well received. For example, the cables that are completely integrated into the head tube are mentioned.The cockpit has a correspondingly reduced appearance, which automatically directs the focus to the LED remote of the Bosch Smart System and the corresponding Kiox 300 display.
2. Up to date
KTM is one of the manufacturers that have rigorously opted for the latest development stage of the Bosch e-drive from the start of the 2022 season. Accordingly, the Style 720 is “state of the art”. In practical terms, this means that you are riding with the technology on which Bosch will base all its further developments in the coming years. For the time being, this means easier networking with other devices and apps compared to previous versions, as well as a 20 percent longer range of the 750 watt-hour battery.
3. Comfortable
How comfortable you feel on an ebike often depends on little things. When it comes to these details, KTM also seems to have got a few things right. Elektrorad praises the wide step-through of the tested low-step, which makes it easier to get on and off. The adjustable stem proves valuable when finding the optimal seating position. Its pitch angle is variable and opens up corresponding leeway in terms of handlebar height and distance from the upper body. Ergonomically shaped grips including bar ends as well as the suspension seat post further enhance riding comfort.
4. Practical
A touring and trekking ebike almost always comes with a rear carrier. However, everyday use quickly shows whether it is a really useful one. KTM comes with a Racktime model. It can carry loads of up to 25 kilograms and has slightly lower struts on the sides. You can securely attach panniers from a wide range of manufacturers to it. This proves its worth both on a tour and when shopping or commuting.
5. Smooth-running
During the tests, the KTM Macina Style 720 proved to be “smooth-running and track-adherent”. Combined with the enormously powerful Bosch Performance CX motor, this results in a riding experience that will probably appeal to many of you. The tyres also contribute to the positive assessment. The ebike is fitted with 50 millimetre wide Energizer Plus tyres from Schwalbe. Their rubber compound is specifically designed for the loads of an ebike. Apart from that, they roll smoothly on tarmac due to the smooth tread in the middle and provide reliable puncture protection.
6. Safe
As an ebike for pretty much any occasion, safety naturally plays a big role. Thanks to the high-quality hydraulic disc brakes with 180 millimetre diameter brake discs, you are well prepared if you have to stop suddenly and unexpectedly. The IQ-XS front headlight, which illuminates the field of vision in the dark “first-class”, also provides the necessary confidence in the bike, according to Elektrorad. Especially since you can increase the illuminance from 100 lux to 150 lux with the high beam.
The magazine tested the KTM Macina Style 720. This model series also features the KTM Macina Style 710, the KTM Macina Style 730 as well as the KTM Macina Style XL.
Only in the past two years, the KTM Macina Aera 271 LFC, the KTM Macina Sport 630 PTS, the KTM Macina Sport P610 and the KTM Macina Tour 510 have received similar awards. So, if you’re looking for a great trekking ebike, you probably won’t be on the wrong track with the manufacturer at all.
