Diamant Cuts the Weight of its Zing Models. Isn’t that Super?

Diamant is adding a third model to its Zing range for 2024. The new Zing Super Deluxe will be the lightest trekking ebike in the manufacturer’s range. At the same time, it will feature more high-quality equipment than the Zing and the Zing Deluxe. Of course, this comes at a price.

When introducing the Zing Super Deluxe, Diamant clearly focuses on the reduced overall weight of the bike. Apparently, the goal was to undercut the 22-kilogram mark. At 21.1 kilograms, this has clearly been achieved. Even if this value only applies to the version of the ebike equipped with the smallest battery. As with the other Zing models, you can also get the Zing Super Deluxe with a second battery. In this case, the weight increases to 21.8 kilograms with the Bosch PowerPack 545 and to 22.7 kilograms with the Bosch PowerPack 725.

Current and future trends

The trigger for the small diet is likely to be the realisation that in the future, ever lighter ebikes will also push their way into the trekking segment, which are fitted with a mid-motor and want to emphasise their sportiness by being as light as possible. When it comes to the mid-motor, you now have to differentiate between the full-power units and those with medium support. With the Zing Super Deluxe, Diamant deliberately stays true to the Bosch Performance Line CX. With this model, the manufacturer wants to capitalise on the superior performance of the Bosch motor compared to the lighter versions. In our view, this is a perfectly understandable decision. At the same time, we wouldn’t be surprised if Diamant also opted for the Bosch Performance Line SX in the future and took a new approach to trekking based on this motor.

However, Diamant still feels there is sufficient demand for a model like the Zing Super Deluxe. Nevertheless, it will only be produced in small numbers. However, we don’t know what Diamant considers to be a “small” number of units. In any case, the three frame shapes diamond, trapezoid and low-step are set.

Frame battery still up to date?

Some of you may be wondering why the manufacturer is sticking with the external battery on the down tube. Among other things, economic reasons play a decisive role here. Of course Diamant follows what is going on in the market. It turns out that other manufacturers offer models with comparable equipment at comparable weights – with the only difference being that an intube battery is installed. However, their price would be 2,000 euros higher in some cases compared to the respective Diamant model. This argument is likely to be taken into account in many a sales talk.

Diamant is also trying to make the frame battery appear as slim as possible. This is why the Bosch PowerPack 400 is now also available. Compared to the two larger capacity batteries, it appears less bulky. Not to mention that it lowers the weight by 800 grams and 1,600 grams respectively.

Purposefully upgraded

The newcomer saves the remaining weight compared to the Zing Deluxe and the Zing mainly thanks to three modified components. Firstly, Diamant has opted for a carbon crank from e*thirteen. Secondly, the Bontrager Kovee wheels are of a higher quality. And thirdly, the Bosch Purion 200 replaces the combination of Bosch LED Remote and Bosch Kiox 300. The first two changes in particular are noticeable on the scales. But not only there. Both the wheels and the cranks are rotating masses. Every gram saved there makes pedalling easier and therefore pays off twice over.

The improved riding comfort should not go unmentioned. You gain an impressive 40 millimetres of suspension travel with the Zing Super Deluxe. The performance of the previously installed SR Suntour Mobie 34 with its 60 millimetres of travel was at the lower end of what can be expected from this type of ebike. The SR Suntour Axon 32 Boost takes you up a good two notches.

This is how much the lower weight costs

Other tried and tested parts of the equipment remain unchanged. These include the twelve-speed derailleur gears from Shimano, the good hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano with 180 millimetre brake discs and the MIK-compatible rear rackl, which can take a maximum load of 25 kilograms.

The entry-level model of the Zing Super Deluxe costs 900 euros more than the Zing. The difference to the Zing Deluxe is 300 euros. Among the top models with the 725-watt-hour battery, the differences are 1,000 euros and 400 euros respectively.
