The “Concept Dynamic Cargo” becomes the Cube Trike Hybrid

As announced, Cube has today published additional information on its new cargo bike with electric assistance. Major surprises have not been revealed. There is a small correction regarding the load capacity of the Cube Trike Cargo Hybrid. In its box made of EPP foam, only 50 kilograms may be loaded instead of the previously mentioned 60 kilograms. The maximum permitted total weight for the bike is 220 kilograms. According to Cube, 75 kilograms of this is accounted for by the bike itself. The optionally available front carrier can carry a load of 20 kilograms.

Regarding the price, we would have been wrong with our estimates. The 6,999 euros for the family version are quite a bit. At least you can choose between a white, light blue and grey frame colour. At 6,499 euros, the cargo version is 500 euros cheaper. Here, Cube only offers a dark anthracite colour.

After not quite two years, the time has come: what the car manufacturer BMW presented in July 2021 as the “Concept Dynamic Cargo” is now going into series production at Cube under the name Trike Hybrid. Today, the bike manufacturer announced that the three-wheeled electric cargo bike will probably be available in specialist shops from the 3rd quarter of this year.

In the beginning, BMW and Cube developed the model together. Later, Cube took this over into its own hands. The result is two different versions – the Cube Trike Family Hybrid and the Cube Trike Cargo Hybrid.

Different versions for different purposes

According to Cube, the first model is primarily designed for families and their needs. It offers you the possibility of transporting a maximum of two children on the bike. Optionally, only one child seat can be mounted. In this case, there is more space to stow shopping or other items. The pictures available so far show that the accessories for the Cargobox will include a canopy to protect the passengers from rain, wind and sun.

If the focus is more on transporting goods or if you want to take your dog with you on bike tours with the e-cargo bike, the Cube Trike Cargo Hybrid might be more suitable. You can load a total of 60 kilograms onto it. In addition, the height of the canopy can be adjusted.

Dynamic riding concept

The basis for both versions is, of course, an identical frame including the self-developed tilting mechanism. As is well known, Cube uses a swivel axle on the Trike Hybrid as a connection between the main frame and the rear section, which functions as a cargo area. In contrast to the solution on Sblocs Calderas, for example, the front section of the bike on which you sit tilts on the Trike Hybrid, while the rear axle with the two wheels remains unchanged in a horizontal position to the ground.

Typically for Cube, a Bosch system is used for the e-drive. We can’t say exactly in which constellation today. The manufacturer has announced more detailed information for tomorrow. What is certain is that it will be a Smart System. The most likely choice seems to be the Bosch Cargo Line motor with the well-known torque of 85 Newton metres. In addition, the choice has fallen on a Bosch PowerTube integrated in the down tube. It is quite possible that it is the one with the capacity of 750 watt hours.

Full specifications and prices still uncertain

Since Cube will only produce one frame size of the e-cargo bike, the components that support you in adjusting the riding position to your body size play a major role. Based on the visuals, everything points to a combination of a dropper post and height-adjustable stem. The suspension fork provides additional riding comfort. Let’s see if it will be part of the standard equipment.

Both the front carrier and the matching pannier will probably be optional. Basically, both seem quite useful for everyday use. How much you can benefit from them depends a little on the value Cube will specify for the maximum permitted total weight of the Trike Hybrid.

You will probably find out the exact technical specifications tomorrow. The same applies to the price of the bike. Cube has kept this to itself, at least for today.
