Camping trailers like the Hupi have a loyal following. Many people find it fascinating to discover new places while travelling with familiar four walls – whether you’re going by car or by bike. Now from France comes a new camper for ebikes in which you can shower after cycling and then enjoy your own open-air cinema.
Sounds pretty luxurious, doesn’t it? But that’s ok. After all, potential buyers of the Tinyvroum Capsulbike deliberately prefer a camping trailer to a tent, for example. At the same time, this sounds very impressive at first, but in its actual implementation it seems spartan enough to be above any reproach of living in pomp.
Narrow enough for the bike lane
Despite all the useful details, the 1.10-metre-wide, 2.80-metre-long and 1.40-high appendage remains a modest home. The floor of the interior cabin is completely filled by a mattress measuring 200 centimetres by 70 centimetres. On top of it lies a heatable sleeping bag. When you crawl into it, you should be a little careful. The cabin is not too high. But you can watch the stars as you fall asleep if you lie down with your head towards the doors and look up at the sky from the slanted skylight.
While you are in the cabin, your luggage has to go somewhere else. There is hardly any storage space left. At least LED lights illuminate the interior. And there is also a USB charging port.
You can stow some of your equipment in the two panniers attached to the outside of the Capsulbike doors. They are part of the standard equipment. Just like the tensioning straps on the inside and outside. You can attach other things to them or even hang up some laundry.
Role model from the own house
This principle of deliberately including the outer side walls when it comes to expanding the possibilities of the caravan was adopted by Tinyvroum from its trailer for cars. This was the start of founder Christophe La Cancellera’s company. Several of the designer’s approaches can be found on the Capsulbike. Basically, the Capsulbike looks like a miniature of its big brother.
Both are connected by the use of solar energy, for example. On the roof of the body, which is made of CNC-milled composite panels, there is a solar panel. Its cells generate 140 watts of power. This can be used, for example, to charge the 50 ampere-hour battery stowed under the interior cab. Primarily, however, the solar energy is used to heat a ten-litre water reservoir, which becomes the shower mentioned at the beginning.
If you are not camping in a lonely spot in the countryside, you can protect yourself from the eyes of the surroundings with a fold-out shower tent. Both shower and hose are included in the set, but of course there is no drain 😉.
Practical solution
Christophe La Cancellera has even taken care of the water supply. Rainwater flows from the gutters through a filter into a canister that clamps to the back wall of the Capsulbike. This way, you can make the most of any weather. If the sun is shining, it’s time for body care, and if it’s raining, your water supply will fill up by itself.
The list of useful features is by no means exhausted. A set of cooker, mugs and a kettle are on the list, as well as a mini folding table and a twelve-litre cool box. Not to mention a fold-out toilet with matching biodegradable bags.
Movie nights all to yourselves
Should you ever get bored on your travels, Tinyvroum has also taken care of that. For an extra 280 euros, you can order a beamer and screen to go with the trailer. The battery provides the necessary power. It also supplies the fridge, the sleeping bag, the USB ports, a cigarette lighter and the LED lighting. So you should always pay attention to which of the devices you use and for how long, so as not to suddenly fall back to the standard of tenting 😉.
Speaking of tenting. Tinyvroum even offers an additional tent for the roof. However, this is only suitable for children, as the length of the mattress is limited to 1.40 metres. In view of the surcharge of 850 euros, this option needs to be carefully considered.
Safe on the road
In order to take the Tinyvroum Capsulbike on a trip, your ebike must be approved for towing a trailer. In the standard version, this means an additional weight of 69 kilograms. To make it easier for other traffic to recognise you, the manufacturer has equipped the camping trailer with wireless LED turn signals that you can operate from the handlebars. Several front, side and rear reflectors are integrated into the body.
For a price of 3,900 euros, this seems to be a fair offer overall. On top of this sum, there is an additional 270 euros for shipping. The homepage currently only shows shipping for France and Belgium. Unfortunately, we don’t know if other countries will be added soon.
