After the season’s highlight in June with the Eurobike and the presentation of the new Performance Line SX drive, the next update for the eBike Flow app follows. This opens up additional options for convenient locking and unlocking of an ebike with Smart System drive.
Familiar function in a new environment
With the update, the eBike Flow app in version 1.15 now has the functions of eBike Lock. Many of you should know the name. This is the designation under which a solution for Bosch ebike systems of the second development stage has existed for several years. On an ebike with a corresponding drive, the motor support can be activated and deactivated with a Kiox display or a Nyon display of the second generation by attaching or detaching the display. This works with the following systems:
- Bosch Active Line from model year 2018
- Bosch Active Line Plus from model year 2018
- Bosch Performance Line from model year 2020
- Bosch Cargo Line from model year 2020
- Bosch Performance Line Speed from model year 2020
- Bosch Performance Line CX from model year 2020
Exactly the same is now possible in the world of the Smart System. After the initial activation of eBike Lock in the eBike Flow app, you will be able to use a display as a kind of digital key in addition to your smartphone. Simply move a control in the app settings and the motor of your ebike will only unlock when the Kiox 300 or the Kiox 500, which was recently introduced for the 2024 season, locks into the mount. Conversely, the system locks as soon as you remove the display.
Pinpoint improvements
With the current implementation, Bosch has learned from the past and solved a few details better than with the previous drives. This starts with the price. While eBike Lock cost 9.99 euros as a premium function in the eBike Connect app, the feature is now free of charge in the eBike Flow app. In addition, four ebikes can be equipped with the function in the eBike Connect app with one account. In the eBike Flow app, the number increases to six ebikes that can be locked and unlocked with a Kiox 300 or Kiox 500.
This is particularly advantageous if you share an ebike with another person. You can add the respective display in the settings of the account in which the ebike is registered. The best way to do this is to follow the steps below:
- switch on the ebike
- attach and activate the display
- open the “Settings” menu in the eBike Flow app
- navigate to the item “eBike settings”
- continue to “eBike Lock”
- open the “Unlock settings” menu and make the desired setting
Those who prefer the smartphone variant do not need to deselect it, but can simply add the option with the display. Bosch allows multiple selection at this point. At the same time, you can deactivate automatic unlocking. In the past, this sometimes led to unintentional unlocking when you were near the ebike but did not want to ride it. To do this, deactivate the ” Automatic unlock” function. From now on, you unlock the ebike system by pressing and holding the “Hold to unlock” button on the home screen of the eBike Flow app for a few seconds.
Very important: With all the electronic options, don’t forget that you can only make it sufficiently difficult for thieves to steal your ebike by combining it with a conventional bike lock.
Personalise views more extensively
The update also gives you more freedom in using the displays mentioned above. More precisely, it is about the display screens. What they show and in which order they appear in the Kiox 300 or the Kiox 500 can be customised more. You can change a maximum of three of the tiles on a screen and 13 screens according to your own wishes. With a total of 30 different specifications to choose from, there are numerous combinations. Just choose the one you want to keep an eye on the most while you’re riding.
According to Bosch, the update is available for download in the respective app stores with immediate effect.
