Bergamont has probably been really hustling and bustling over the past few months. The team from the Hanseatic city has been very busy and is coming up with one of the longest lists of new products for the 2022 season. Understandably, much of it concentrates on the new Smart system drive from Bosch – but not everything. In the range, profoundly revised models appear, some of which are based on completely new frames. We present the bikes that we consider to be the most important in a short and concise way. Let’s go.

1. Bergamont E-Horizon Premium 2022: The top dog among e-trekking bikes
Trekking bikes are still one of the best-sellers among e-bikes. In the case of Bergamont, the E-Horizon models are an extensive product line in which you will encounter all the common frame designs and drivetrain variants. Another name is breaking into this phalanx with the E-Horizon Premium ebikes. The manufacturer uses the term “Premium” for all models that are equipped with the latest Bosch system developments. First and foremost, this means more capacity thanks to the 750 watt hours battery as well as improved connectivity thanks to Bluetooth-enabled control units.
Modification to the frame required
When looking at the frame, the change is also immediately apparent. The down tube, which is now a little longer, almost passes the motor a little. The motor itself has been rotated a few degrees compared to before, so that it points less forward in the direction of travel and more upwards. Bergamont has bridged the gap with a stable intermediate construction. Here, the connection for the charger is integrated and easy to access. On the drive side, the unit merges seamlessly into the solid chain guard. This encloses almost two thirds of the chainring and large parts of the chain. Visually, this takes some getting used to. In terms of function, however, there is probably little to complain about.
In the version for the 2022 season, the battery can be removed from the side. This may be easier for many of you than the previous removal from the bottom. A lid made of metal and a revised closure also represent a leap forward.
Speaking of the front. Bergamont has incorporated four mounts on the head tube of the E-Horizon Premium. You can attach a front carrier to these, for example.
The model range offers a total of three variations:
- E-Horizon Premium Pro Belt as a comfortable urban e-bike with stepless automatic gears from Enviolo and Gates carbon belts
- E-Horizon Premium Expert as a counterpart with 11-speed derailleur gears
- E-Horizon Premium SUV as a versatile bike for off-road touring thanks to profiled Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB tyres
All three versions are available in the frame shapes Gent, Lady and Amsterdam.

2. Bergamont E-Horizon SUV 2022: The new versatility
Of course, the upgrade from Bosch does not mean that the previous motor stages disappear from the market at the same time. The products are simply too mature for that and are hardly inferior to the current standard in terms of performance. It is therefore not surprising that Bergamont is expanding its product range on this basis in areas where customer interest is particularly high. A prime example of this is the addition to the E-Horizon cosmos. The E-Horizon SUV is a newcomer that ties in with one of the dominant trends of recent years.
We’re talking about the all-terrain low-step bikes that seem to be part of every manufacturer’s product range. The parameters for such bicycles are usually as follows: Suspension fork with at least moderate travel, derailleur gears, relatively wide, more strongly profiled tyres and a very powerful motor. The E-Horizon SUV fits this profile exactly. The 75 millimetres of suspension travel are combined with a 10- or 11-speed derailleur and the powerful Bosch Performance Line CX. In addition, there are a pair of Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres, which are wide enough at 54 millimetres, but seem rather restrained with their smaller studs.
On the other hand, this has a positive effect where an SUV also wants to be driven – on the road. Finally, part of the concept is the complete equipment for road use with mudguards, light system, rear carrier and side stand. Bergamont is therefore not redefining this type of bike, but at the same time is not doing anything wrong with its interpretation. Especially since the three versions Comfort, Country and Cross offer you plenty of choice.

3. Bergamont E-Contrail SUV Expert 2022: Prepared for anything
The theme of SUV e-bikes can also be played a little differently. You can consider this with the new E-Contrail SUV Expert. The full-suspension E-Contrail e-mountain bike served as the point of departure. Bergamont has retained its characteristics as a fun off-road bike, i.e. the frame, the suspension with 130 millimetres of travel at the front and rear, the retractable seatpost, the 60 millimetre wide knobby tyres and the high-quality single-speed drivetrain with twelve gears.
In addition, the bike is fully equipped, which not only makes it suitable for road use, but also gives it additional facets. The Racktime rear carrier with the Snapit 2.0 system, for example, is designed so that you can attach smaller panniers to it for touring, but it doesn’t suddenly dominate the entire rear. The Litemove headlight is also an extremely compact representative of its kind that blends harmoniously into the cockpit. With 110 lux, it still gives you enough visibility.
The basis for the Bergamont E-Contrail SUV Expert is once again the Bosch drive of generation 4 with the already familiar Performance Line CX motor and a 625 PowerTube battery.

4. Bergamont E-Revox Premium EQ 2022: Onwards forever
Similar to the E-Contrail SUV, the new E-Revox Premium EQ from Bergamont also has a certain hybrid character. Here, a classic hardtail meets a trekking bike. The result is a versatile e-bike that can be played with in several ways. Complete lighting, mudguards, rear carrier and side stand ensure that you don’t necessarily have to carry your own luggage on tours, arrive cleanly and can ride into the darkness relaxed at any time. The whole thing is perhaps a gear down from the E-Contrail SUV.
On the other hand, the E-Revox Premium EQ benefits from a longer-lasting battery and new connectivity options. At the same time, the bike’s tyres are narrower and its profile is a compromise between forest paths and tarmac.
For those who like this type of bike but would rather ride it in an urban environment, the E-Revox Premium Rigid EQ equipment variant is an excellent alternative. It has a low-maintenance rigid fork. The lack of suspension is compensated for to a large extent by the wider Schwalbe Super Moto-X tyres. What’s more, their semi-slick tread makes you race even faster along the roads.

5. Bergamont E-Cargoville Bakery 2022: Useful powerhouse
Without being offensive, the E-Cargoville Bakery can probably be called a heavyweight for the 2022 season. Bergamont itself refers to the frame of this novelty as a “heavy duty design”. Behind the more massive-looking new edition of this e-cargo bike is a partly new approach. Bergamont is deliberately looking in the direction of commercial use. And for that, the previous maximum permitted total weight of 160 kilograms was probably a little short. The 160 kilograms have now become 180 kilograms.
On the other hand, the manufacturer has stuck to other proven approaches. Thus, the model for the 2022 season also rolls on 24-inch tyres at the front and 26-inch tyres at the rear. In this way, the load carried on the front carrier is lowered. This improves both the loading and the steering of the bike. It is also pleasing that the new E-Cargoville Bakery will continue to be available in the two frame sizes S and L. Often, e-cargo bikes are only available in one frame size, which can quickly make it difficult to find an optimal riding position.
Since Bergamont is considered a specialist in the field of cargo bikes, the other equipment is more than adequate. The powerful Magura brakes, for example, are specially designed for the high loads involved in transporting heavy goods. The same applies to the Shimano Nexus 5-speed gear hub and the Schwalbe Pick-Up tyres. With regard to the requirements of such a pack mule, the option of accommodating a second battery should be emphasised. You can add a Bosch PowerPack with a maximum of 500 watt hours to the 625 PowerTube integrated in the down tube.

6. Bergamont E-Ville SUV 2022: Specific work on details
You will have to take a much closer look if you want to recognise the E-Ville SUV Elite as being a newcomer to the Bergamont range. Okay, the absolute connoisseurs among you will already notice the addition of “Elite”. Until this year, the manufacturer already had an E-Ville SUV in its range. This has been given the suffix “Tour” and has been superseded, so to speak, by the more premium equipped “Elite” version.
In fact, the changes here are marginal at best. The Purion display on the more expensive E-Ville SUV Elite makes way for a Kiox. The handlebars also feature the IQ-XS from Busch&Müller, a higher-quality front headlight. Bergamont has also upgraded the brakes a little, installing hydraulic disc brakes from the Shimano Alfine groupset. The upgrade is rounded off by Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus tyres. The E-Ville SUV Tour makes do with Smart Sam Plus. Overall, this can be seen as a minor correction that brings the E-Ville SUV a little closer to the other variants of the E-Ville in technical terms in the 2022 season.

7. Bergamont E-Ville Expert 2022: Rigid was yesterday
Within the E-Ville models, a second innovation can be noted. The Bergamont E-Ville Expert offers more riding comfort from the 2022 season. The new suspension fork is responsible for this. The manufacturer replaces the very high-quality rigid fork made of carbon with a Mobie 25 from SR Suntour. This has a suspension travel of 100 millimetres. At the same time, the E-Ville Expert Rigid disappears from the range.
Apart from the brakes, the other components remain unchanged. In future, four instead of two brake pistons will do the work of braking. Perhaps to make the update more visible, Bergamont has given the E-Ville Expert a new colour. There is a change from matt black and glossy red to matt black with glossy green.

8. Bergamont E-Horizon Edition Lady 2022: New woman power
Three is simply not enough. Bergamont seems to have thought so with its E-Horizon Edition model range. What is meant here are the frame designs. Until now, you could choose from the diamond frame, the Amsterdam frame and the low-step frame. Now there is actually a fourth option in the form of a step-through frame. The whole thing is called the Bergamont E-Horizon Edition Lady. From our point of view, the chosen colour, a glossy Cassis Red, at least suits this sporty e-trekking bike very well. Who knows, maybe the ladies among you have been waiting for just such an e-bike.

9. Bergamont E-Horizon Edition LTD 2022: The special touch
Last but not least, a second novelty that is more of a visual nature. Two bikes from the E-Horizon cosmos will appear in the 2022 season in a rather unusual colour for Bergamont. To be more precise, in both cases it is an exclusive colour combination. The Bergamont E-Horizon Edition LTD Gents shines in white and dark red. For the E-Horizon Edition LTD Amsterdam, on the other hand, Bergamont has opted for white and Pacific blue. This is a surprising choice, as Bergamont primarily relies on more subdued colours for its e-bikes and often combines them with black. So far, white has tended to appear on bikes that were then almost exclusively painted white.
At the same time, the manufacturer plays with the common colour codes and chooses red as an accent for the men’s frame and blue for the women’s frame. In the pictures we have seen so far, both variants looked very refreshing. From our point of view, there can be more of them. If this also appeals to you, you should be quick. The number of these models is limited.
