The chain tensioner is mounted in the derailleur hanger of the frame using the Rohloff frame bolt. The spacers are used to adjust the chain line.

The long frame bolt is required in the following cases, among others:

Dropout thickness smaller than .7 mm and use of the sprocket with 13 teeth (chainline 57mm).
Frame 135/142mm with screw sprocket 13 teeth with 57mm chainline
Frame 170/177mm with bolt-on sprocket 13 teeth with 75.5mm chainline
Frame 135/142mm with pinion 13-19 + 21 teeth with 57mm chainline
Frame 170/177mm with pinion 13-19 + 21 teeth with 75mm chainline
