Ebikes with a low-step frame are now part of the standard repertoire of almost every major bicycle manufacturer. However, only a few have ventured into full-suspension versions of this type of ebike. Last summer, Moustache attracted greater attention with the J. A few weeks ago, KTM presented two such models, the Macina Aera FS and the Macina Style FS. For the 2025 season, Haibike is now joining this phalanx. The new Haibike Adventr includes three low-step models with precisely this feature. Which category the trio can be categorised in, Haibike is apparently still somewhat divided.
Everything and nothing
Manufacturers always praise their bikes effusively on their websites. That’s okay, it’s part of the business and is common throughout the entire bike industry. Ok, done. At the same time, they still try to give potential buyers an idea of the best environment and occasion in which to use the ebike in question. The quickest way to do this is to assign it to a specific category. For example, e-mountain bikes, city ebikes or e-cargo bikes. This is not to say that the intended use has already been exhausted. But as soon as we read this, we know what the manufacturer had in mind and can compare this information with our own search intention.
Understandably, Haibike only has words of praise for its new Adventr for the 2025 season. It wants to keep as many doors open as possible in terms of its potential use. We read something about a bridge ‘between a reliable trekking eBike and a comfortable fully eMTB’. Elsewhere, there is talk of an ‘eSUV’. And two sentences later of a ‘a sporty, fully equipped eMTB full-suspension that is ideal for on- and off- road’. With ‘eSUV’, ‘fully eMTB’ and ‘trekking eBike’, there are three suggestions in the room. It is also ideal for both riding on- and off-road. It feels as if the postscript contradicts what we ourselves imagine the three aforementioned ebike types to be. So, let’s let Haibike do a little more sorting, push the categories aside and try to clarify in another way what you can do best with the Haibike Adventr Low FS.
Competitors as a guide
The Moustache J, KTM Macina Aera FS and KTM Macina Style FS mentioned at the beginning help us with this. We will skip what their manufacturers classify their models as. Instead, let’s look at a few reliable facts. Because if one thing is certain, it’s that the Adventr Low FS is a full-suspension low-step bike. And as such, it has quite a few things in common with the others. Almost all of these ebikes are equipped with mudguards, fixed lights, a rear rack and a kickstand. Suitability for everyday use, riding in an urban environment and basic suitability as a touring bike therefore seem to play an important role in their concepts.
From this point of view, the Haibike Adventr fits seamlessly into the range. Lights, mudguards and a kickstand are always included as standard. You can load the built-in rear rack with a maximum weight of 15 kilograms. This is not enough to carry a child on it using a child seat. However, the side struts signalise that the attachment of panniers is indeed intended.
Haibike Adventr 2025 with the latest Bosch system
Like Moustache and KTM, Haibike also relies on a Bosch ebike system for its full-suspension low-step bike. While Moustache opts for the Bosch Performance Line, KTM and Haibike have opted for the most powerful Bosch Performance Line CX motor, whose torque of 85 Newton metres is ten Newton metres higher. Haibike combines the top Bosch model with the PowerTube 800 and PowerTube 600 batteries, which can be removed from the down tube for charging. If required, the capacity can be increased by a further 250 watt hours with an additional Bosch PowerMore 250.
Depending on the equipment, the Haibike Adventr Low FS comes with either an LED Remote together with a Kiox 300 display, with which you can activate the drive, select the riding modes and use the navigation. On the cheapest model, everything runs via a Purion 200, which makes the cockpit look a little cleaner. At the same time, some functions such as navigation are omitted.
What is the potential of the Haibike Adventr Low FS?
The manufacturers go their separate ways when designing the frame and integrating the suspension for the rear triangle. Both KTM and Moustache use the expected frame shape with a very low step-through. Haibike, on the other hand, takes up some space in the lower part of the main frame. The manufacturer has the seat stays continue into the frame tube and end at the down tube. The rear triangle of the Adventr Low FS is a classic single pivot. Its pivot point is located on the left above the bottom bracket when viewed from the drive side. You can recognise the shock below the transverse tube that leads to the down tube. It absorbs the movement of the rear triangle via a mount coming from the seat tube. The cross-connection supports the rear triangle and provides the necessary stability. Admittedly, this looks quite massive. However, it will almost certainly fulfil exactly the desired purpose, namely, to reliably absorb even heavy impacts.
For good reason Haibike has designed the aluminium frame in such a way that the shock offers you a suspension travel of 130 millimetres. The suspension fork even has ten millimetres more. Regarding such dimensions, the parallels to an e-mountain bike from the trail bike segment seem entirely justified. The extensive other features of the Adventr 2025 immediately put an end to this idea. However, there is no denying the potential that lies dormant in this ebike. And the manufacturer allows this potential to fully unfold on its Alltrail 10.5 ABS. There as a fully-fledged e-MTB without any practical add-on parts.
Incidentally, Moustache couldn’t resist this impulse with its J either. However, the result is a little less wild. After all, the travel of 115 millimetres at the rear and 130 millimetres at the front doesn’t quite match the Haibike Adventr 2025. KTM doesn’t even make the attempt with its models. There, the suspension system is even more limited in this respect.
To return to the dilemma of categorisation from the beginning of the article, we cannot and do not want to deny that the newcomer from Haibike is related to the e-mountain bike. However, it just as obviously combines features of other ebike categories. Perhaps we can agree that this ebike is, firstly, the e-bike you make it out to be. And that, secondly, it offers an extremely wide range of options for this choice.
Three configurations and another frame shape
However, you still have to decide at which technical and therefore price level this should take place. You can choose between the Haibike Adventr 11 ABS, the Haibike Adventr 10 and the Haibike Adventr 8.5. Their prices start at 6,499 euros for the top model and then go down from 5,699 euros to 5,199 euros for the most affordable version. The largest sum is primarily due to the E-Bike ABS from Bosch, the largest battery capacity and the highest quality versions of the suspension fork, gearing and brakes. In the entry-level model, on the other hand, for example, the capacity drops from 800 watt hours to 600 watt hours and the number of derailleur gears from twelve to ten.
It should also be mentioned that the Haibike Adventr 2025 is available with a diamond frame in addition to the low-step models. On these, you have to swing your leg over the top tube again when getting on and off the bike. However, you can only do this on frame sizes S, M, L and XL. Haibike only offers frame sizes S, M and L of the low-step Adventr Low FS.
