Now tension is mounting at Skarper. The sales launch of the DiskDrive is coming into view. In a video released yesterday, the company announces the start of production for the retrofit ebike drive.

All signs point to green light

In the video, founder Alastair Darwood appears in front of the camera together with Sir Chris Hoy, multiple Olympic and world champion in track cycling. Both of them are really banging the drum and announce that Skarper will soon start selling its products. In the past weeks and months, the manufacturer has concentrated on completing a wide range of stress tests. In addition, feedback was gathered from test riders who rode several thousand kilometres with the DiskDrive.

It seems that Skarper has now successfully completed this phase. The design has been finalised. In the meantime, the first samples of the version of the drive that is to be launched on the market soon are assembled. According to Alastair Darwood, preparations for the actual start of production and mass production are in full swing.

Exclusive offer for pre-orderers

If you want to be among the first to convert your regular bike into an ebike with the Skarper DiskDrive, you can register on a mailing list on the manufacturer’s website. This way, you will secure a place on the pre-order list and will be given priority when the delivery of the unit starts. In addition to the drive, Skarper will probably give a few extras to those who pre-order. What these might be, however, was not mentioned. It also remains unclear how much a DiskDrive will cost and whether delivery can be expected before the end of the year.

The big advantage of the Skarper DiskDrive is the easy attachment and detachment of the drive unit and the resulting change between ebike and regular bike.

In the meantime, Skarper will be at one or two cycling events in Great Britain. This will be an opportunity for you to take the DiskDrive out for a spin before sales start. On the last weekend in August, for example, the manufacturer made a guest appearance at the Hampton Court Palace Festival. According to the echo on various social media channels, there was a lively crowd. Let’s see when you can ride your own DiskDrive.
