Update 5th January 2023
1. Scott Solace eRide and Contessa Solace eRide
Shortly before the end of last year, Scott presented another novelty for the 2023 season. The Scott Solace eRide is an ebike weighing only around twelve kilograms. Whereby an ebike is actually the wrong description. The Solace eRide is in fact a platform on the basis of which two e-road bike variants and three e-gravel bike variants have been created. Because this approach deserves a closer look, we turned our full attention to the bikes and their innovative HPR50 e-drive from TQ. Read more about it here.

2. Scott Lumen eRide and Contessa Lumen eRide
The chase for the title of lightest e-mountain bike has reached an incredibly high level this year. On the one hand, Fazua with the Ride 60 and TQ with the HPR50 have presented new drives that have redefined limits in terms of weight and integration. On the other hand, in the meantime quite a few manufacturers are using these drives and putting their respective know-how on the line.
Scott is now also getting in on the action – with its brand new Lumen eRide. A completely new name in the manufacturer’s ebike range. However, Scott did not start from scratch with this project. Rather, the Scott Spark was the inspiration for a bike that has achieved enormous popularity worldwide thanks to the countless sporting successes of the Olympic champion, multiple world champion and overall World Cup winner Nino Schurter from Switzerland. The Lumen eRide transfers his concept to the world of electrically assisted bicycles. In detail, this means:
- sporty designed cross-country mountain bike
- moderate suspension travel of 130 millimetres
- full suspension instead of classic hardtail frame with only one suspension fork
- single-pivot shock
- carbon frame for maximum weight reduction
Light and powerful at the same time
Given this specification, it is clear what the Lumen eRide wants to be. First and foremost, it’s about top speed paired with a fair amount of endurance. And Scott has given the bike everything it needs to achieve this. One of the most important cornerstones is the HPR50 drive from TQ, which was presented at the Eurobike in Frankfurt. Its weight-to-power ratio alone, at 1.8 kilograms with a maximum torque of 50 Newton metres, impresses every time you call up these figures. You may already know the system from the hardly less impressive Trek Fuel Exe.
Due to its character as a drive system for a light e-MTB, the motor is content with an energy consumption that is significantly lower than that of a Bosch Performance CX Line. The corresponding battery is correspondingly smaller and therefore lighter. According to TQ, the 360 watt hours of capacity in eco mode are good enough for 2,000 metres of altitude or about four hours of pure riding time. The top model of the range, the Lumen eRide 900 SL, is equipped with an additional external range extender as standard, which has 160 watt hours.
Damper completely hidden
The carbon frame houses the motor, battery and shock. Integrated shock and Scott, wasn’t that something before? Absolutely right. Scott has already gained experience with a similar system on the Patron eRide. While the shock is docked in the top tube and can be reached from there, the case is somewhat different with the Lumen eRide. The damper with a simple pivot point is part of the seat tube. Near the bottom bracket, a flap can be opened on the down tube to access the valve of the damper. This is not the most comfortable place to reach and of course the area that gets dirty the easiest. However, this solution probably cannot be realised without a compromise.
This does not restrict the actual function of the damper in any way. Moreover, apart from a little dust, the frame keeps any other dirt away from the component. There is also another very practical advantage. There is enough space in the frame triangle left to fit two bottle cages. Or to fit one bottle cage and the range extender, if you opt for this option.
Noble equipment with a small drawback
Scott has created three equipment versions of the Lumen eRide based on 29-inch wheels. If you add the Scott Contessa Lumen eRide 900, the model for all female bikers, you get four. All are available in four frame sizes from S to XL. The top model, the Scott Lumen eRide 900 SL, is the lightest of them all, weighing just 15.5 kilograms. Of course, this minimal weight is no coincidence. The electronic version of the XX1 Eagle shifting group from Sram, the Shimano XTR brakes, the carbon wheels and the Syncros Fraser iC SL stem/handlebar unit, which is also made of carbon, all play their part. Just like the price of 14,999 euros.
Due to the less exclusive components and attachments, the Scott Lumen eRide 900 comes in at 9,599 euros and the Scott Lumen eRide 910 at 6,999 euros.
What always sticks in our craw a bit about Scott is the fact that the manufacturer cuts back on numerous models that are designed for women’s body measurements compared to the models aimed at men. The Lumen eRide unfortunately confirms this trend. The Scott Contessa Lumen eRide 900 is technically and price-wise on the same level as the Scott Lumen eRide 910, although the 900 in the product name rather signals the proximity to the Scott Lumen eRide 900, which is, however, noticeably better equipped and more expensive. Even today, we can’t think of any reason why women shouldn’t also be able to enjoy Kashima coating or electronic gears as standard.

Original post 4th November 2022
Traditionally, the Eurobike gives the starting signal for most bicycle manufacturers to present their new products for the coming season. This year, however, the fair took place about one and a half months earlier than usual. In addition, the bicycle industry worldwide is still suffering from serious supply bottlenecks. Therefore, many brands are breaking with this rhythm. Scott belongs to this faction. The manufacturer is now showing its first novelties for the 2023 season.
3. Scott Addict RC eRide
In fact, Scott already lifted the curtain a little on the coming season in April. Parallel to the presentation of the new drive from Mahle, the manufacturer showed the first pictures of the revised version of its e-road bike. So now it is coming onto the market.
The new Scott Addict RC eRide now features the Mahle X20 rear hub motor. Previously, the X35+ provided the electric support. The new unit is lighter, but has slightly less torque. On the other hand, the Addict RC eRide in the top version weighs only 10.7 kilograms. Of course, credit for this can’t go to the ebike system alone. The fact that the frame, fork and wheelset are made of carbon also contributes significantly.
Useful addition to the top model
Mahle provides two permanently integrated batteries with different capacities for the X20 motor. Scott installs the smaller one with around 250 watt hours. With the top model, the Addict RC eRide Ultimate, Scott adds a range extender in the form of a water bottle for free. At a purchase price of almost exactly 11,000 euros, this doesn’t really matter that much. Unfortunately, the two cheaper models of the Addict RC eRide have to do without this extra.

4. Contessa Addict RC eRide
In analogy to the models for men, Scott also offers the Contessa Addict RC eRide 15, a version of the e-road bike that is specially designed for women. Only Scott can answer why this is “only” on a par with the Addict RC eRide 20 and thus makes significant sacrifices compared to the Ultimate when it comes to gears, brakes and wheels, for example. In terms of its nature, it is of course the same lively bike with which you can live out your speed rush on the road to the full. Considering only 1.1 kilograms of additional weight and the 4,000 euro lower price, the disappointment about the unequal treatment is perhaps less severe in the end.
