Breaking news from Riese & Müller: The manufacturer recalls the Packster 70 with immediate effect. There is apparently a serious safety problem with the electric cargo bike. According to the company, the cable steering does not work correctly. Under certain circumstances, the handling of the Packster 70 may be severely impaired. All models delivered from 2020 up to and including 6 October 2021 are affected. Riese & Müller recommends that you refrain from riding the bike immediately in order to protect yourself and others as best as possible. All affected models will now be examined at the Riese & Müller production site in Mühltal. At the same time, the company is pausing production and delivery of the Packster 70 for the moment.
The Packster 60 and Packster 80, on the other hand, do not seem to have had any problems.
In a first statement, Markus Riese, founder and CEO of Riese & Müller, personally commented on the incident. “We are aware that for many of our customers the Packster 70 determines their everyday mobility and is a substitute for a car, which will now be discontinued overnight. We regret this measure all the more. We ask however for understanding that we must act as responsible enterprise in such a way.””

Incident with announcement
There had already been an uproar about the Packster 70 in June of this year. At that time, Riese & Müller voluntarily recalled the e-cargo bike. According to the magazine Radwelt, the reason for this was an assembly inaccuracy in the area of the steering on very few models. Too weakly adjusted steering dampers had caused the front wheel to wobble. In addition, the clamping of the steering cable became loose. In an emergency, this could have led to a fall, according to the company. Today’s announcement from Riese & Müller suggests that this problem also occurred on models delivered later.
Since this afternoon, the product page of the Packster 70 is no longer accessible.
